Five Aggies Receive Diplomas in December Graduation

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Aggie Baseball had five former players take part in weekend commencement services signifying their graduation from Texas A&M University, including four players who continued their education while pursuing their professional playing career.
The list of graduated included Nick Choruby (Industrial Engineering), Mark Ecker (Sport Management), Baine Schoenvogel (University Studies/Leadership Studies), Jace Vines (University Studies/Business with minors in Sport Management and Economics) and Andrew Vinson (Sport Management).
Choruby earned four letters as an Aggie outfielder, playing in 190 games with 113 starts. He hit .303 with 106 runs and 28 strikeouts during his career. As a senior, he batted .321 with 55 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 33 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
The Washington Nationals picked Choruby in the 18th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. Last season he played in 55 games with the Single-A Auburn Doubledays and Single-A Hagerstown Suns, logging 18 runs and 14 stolen bases.
Ecker earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Baseball America as a senior in 2016. He was an All-SEC Second Team pitcher as a junior, finishing 4-2 with eight saves, a 0.39 ERA, .155 opponent batting average and 56 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. His WHIP (0.66) and strikeout-to-walk-ratio (8.00) that season were spectacular.
The Detroit Tigers chose Ecker in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He spent the entire season with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves. Ecker worked 44 games in relief, notching a 4-6 record with one save, a 3.66 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 59.0 innings.
Schoenvogel, a transfer from San Jacinto College, played for the Aggies in 2017 and '18. He ended his career with 54 games played, including 21 starts. He earned the Marion Pugh Spirit Award as a junior in 2017. He had a key eighth-inning, pinch-hit home run in the Aggies' 2017 Houston Regional championship game win over the host Cougars and notched a walk-off double in an 11-inning win against Northwestern State in 2018.
Vines, a transfer from Tyler Junior College, pitched for the Aggies in 2016. He appeared in 17 games that season, logging a 6-1 record with one save and a 4.76 ERA. He logged 60 strikeouts in 62.1 innings.
The Kansas City Royals selected Vines in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. In three seasons in the minor leagues, he has pitched as high as Triple-A. Last season, he worked 136.1 innings between Advanced-A Wilmington Blue Rocks and Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals, logging six wins and one save.
Vinson ended his career as Texas A&M's all-time leader in pitching appearances with 105. His 2.58 career ERA ranks 14th in the Aggie record book. He posted a career record of 13-8 with nine saves and 175 strikeouts in 170.2 innings. Vinson was 5-2 with five saves and a 2.12 ERA as a junior and 4-3 with two saves, a 2.32 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 50.1 innings as a senior.
The Los Angeles Angeles picked Vinson in the 10th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He logged a 9-11 mark with a 4.58 ERA with the Single A-Burlington Bees in 2017. Last year, Vinson shined with the independent Sussex County Miners of the Canadian American Association. He logged a 7-5 record, including three shutouts, with a 4.16 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 101.2 innings.
