
No. 6 Texas A&M Men’s Tennis Falls at No. 2 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Texas A&M men's tennis team dropped a hard fought match Friday evening to No. 2 Ohio State, 4-3, at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus. The setback was the first for the Aggies this season as they fell to 4-1, the Buckeyes improved to 7-0 on the year.
The comeback fell just short as the Aggies needed to claim four singles matches to walk away the victors, but were only able to claim wins from No. 67 Jordi Arconada, No. 35 Valentin Vacherot and Juan Carlos Aguilar.
The home team raced out to a 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point as No. 25 Mikael Torpegaard and Martin Joyce topped Arthur Rinderknech and AJ Catanzariti, 6-2, on court one followed by No. 43 Hunter Tubert and Matt Mendez besting Patrick Kypson and Valentin Vacherot, 6-3, on court three.
The Maroon & White evened the match as Aguilar won his fifth-straight match, topping Joyce 6-4, 6-4 on court five. The Ohio State advantage was restored shortly after Aguilar's victory as No. 30 Kyle Seelig topped Barnaby Smith 6-1, 7-6(7) on court six. Vacherot evened the match for the second time as he outlasted Tim Seibert 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 on court four.
No. 44 JJ Wolf handed No. 84 Kypson his first collegiate loss, as Wolf won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on court one. Arconada evened the match for the final time at 3-3 as he defeated No. 56 John McNally 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 on court three. Ohio State claimed the win as No. 5 Torpegaard defeated No. 52 Rinderknech 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
The Aggies stay on the road, playing a neutral site match against No. 24 Texas Tech at the Downtown Club at the Met in Houston. The Aggies and Red Raiders will face off Sunday at 1 p.m. in Space City.
