TULSA, Okla.- Texas A&M women's golfer Maddie Szeryk won her second consecutive tournament Tuesday, winning the Dale McNamara Invitational by two strokes. Szeryk was one of five Aggies to finish in the Top 25, leading the Aggies to a second place finish as a team.
"I am proud of the way we fought today," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "The girls settled in nicely after a shaky start, even getting to within a couple of shots at one point."
Szeryk, the reigning SEC Golfer of the Week, shot a 1-over 71 at the Tulsa Country Club in the third and final round to close the tournament with a 2-over 212, and her fourth career individual championship, which ranks second all-time at Texas A&M. She is the first Aggie to win back-to-back tournaments since Marijosse Navarro in 2015.
"Maddie winning for the second time in two weeks is awesome," added McCombs. "She knew she was a few back coming down the stretch and needed to make some birdies. She's really starting to put together some great round at the right time."
The Aggies finished second as a team with a 30-over 870, closing the tournament at the par 70 / 6,112 yard course that has hosted the NCAA Championships twice with a final round 12-over 292, the best round of the day. Texas A&M came up five strokes short of tournament champion Oklahoma State, who finished with an 865 (+25).
Freshman Amber Park, who shot a 5-over 75 on Tuesday, picked up her third Top 10 of the season, finishing seventh with a 6-over 216. Sophomore Courtney Dow tied for ninth after an even par 70 in the third round, finishing with at 54-hole score of 8-over 218.
Junior Chloe Velasco tied for 16th, playing as an individual, carding a 3-over 73 to finish the tournament at 13-over 223. Freshman Morgan Lay finished tied for 24th, shooting a 16-over 226 for the event and a 6-over 76 on Tuesday.
Freshman Ariana Saenz closed out the Aggies' lineup with a 26-over 236 for the tournament, tying for 46th. Freshman Elizabeth Caldarelli shot a 6-over 76 on Tuesday to close the tournament with a 32-over 242, finishing 63rd.
The Aggies now head to the SEC Championship, which runs from April 18-22. The new format for 2018 includes three rounds of match play to determine a team champion.
