TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach Rob Childress
On tonight's game…
"Texas State is coming off a weekend in which they went on the road and swept Georgia State and they're feeling really confident. It was a back-and-forth heavyweight fight. They had a lot of punches tonight, from the first round on. They scored on a two-run homer and we came right back and got a big two-out hit and ended up answering back with three runs. Chandler Morris hadn't played in an awful long time and came up there ready to hit. They had a lot of heroes on the mound. We went to a lot of guys tonight and each one of them, when they came in the game, got us a stop. Texas State is a very offensive club. They have a lot of older guys, especially at the top, that make you nervous. I was really glad that Ortega didn't come to the plate there in the ninth. He really makes me nervous."
On using a lot of pitchers...
"We're going back to a Friday, Saturday, Sunday rotation. We have an extra day of rest and we certainly needed to get some of those guys that hadn't been out there in a while out there early and then we wanted to get those guys that we ride an awful lot there at the end of the game because it was close. (Christian) Roa hadn't been out there in a while, he was really sharp and got us a hold. (Jason) Ruffcorn got us a hold. Saenz got on the mound for the first time in a while and I thought he was sharp. Cason Sherrod and Asa Lacy were outstanding. (Nolan) Hoffman gave up a lead-off double and didn't' allow him to score, so we had a lot of guys do some great things on the mound tonight."
Sophomore SS Braden Shewmake
On tonight's game…
"We came out and did a good job offensively and played good defense. Our pitching came right along with it. They might have started a little bit slow but we have so much confidence in every guy that we roll out on the mound. We know they're going to pound the zone and let us play defense behind them. So yeah, it was a back-and-forth game, but we had a lot of faith in the dugout that we were going to pull through."
Sophomore 1B Hunter Coleman
On driving in the go-ahead run…
"It definitely felt good. We were all over the barrel all night. When we have good pitching and good defense it really helps out."
