May 16, 2018 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the second consecutive season, Cason Sherrod was named to the Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service Team, released Wednesday morning. The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
As a student-athlete who is 53 percent deaf in both ears due to his premature birth of 2.5 months, he has been an inspiration to the children of the Brazos Valley Regional School for the Deaf volunteering at their annual picnic and field day.
Sherrod is a four-year participant in the Aggies Baseball Paint-A-Thon where the team visits the home of a local resident in need to paint the exterior of the home, perform basic outdoor maintenance and landscaping.
The Dallas native has helped the Aggies raise over $65,000 the last three years for Vs. Cancer Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Sherrod has a regular schedule of visits to volunteer at local elementary schools in the Bryan-College Station area.
In April, Sherrod earned the Texas A&M Athletics Lohman Inspiration Award.
On the mound, Sherrod continued to climb the Aggies' list for career pitching appearances. He ranks 11th all-time with 70 games under his belt. For his career, Sherrod is 10-3 with five saves, a 3.84 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 98.1 innings. This season, he is 5-2 with a 4.81 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 33.2 innings over his 21 appearances.
