Szeryk Finishes 2nd At NCAA Austin Regional, Advances To NCAA Championship

AUSTIN- Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk advanced as an individual to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma, finishing the NCAA Austin Regional in second place with a 7-under 209 after a final round 72.
The Aggies finished seventh as a team, one spot out of advancing to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Aggies shot a 9-over 297 on Wednesday, finishing the tournament with a 14-over 878. Arkansas won the tournament with a 26-under 838, and the Razorback's Maria Fassi edged out Szeryk by a stroke with a 8-under 208.
Szeryk's second-place finish is the best for an Aggie at NCAA Regionals since 2012, and her 7-under score is the best 54-hole total in NCAA play in Texas A&M history. Szeryk is set for her third career appearance at the NCAA Championship, where she tied for 13th last season.
Szeryk extends both her NCAA record with her 90th round of at least even par, and her SEC record with her 32nd career top 10 finish.
Freshman Amber Park shot even par for the second straight day, finishing the tournament with a 2-under 214, finishing 15th. She finishes her season with a 74.38 stroke average, the fourth-best in history for a Texas A&M freshman.
Sophomore Courtney Dow shot a 3-over 75 on the par 72 / 6,341 yard track, finishing with a 10-over 226 for the tournament, tying for 49th. Freshman Morgan Lay carded a 6-over 78 at the University of Texas Golf Club, and finished the tournament tied for 62nd with a 13-over 229. Freshman Ariana Saenz shot a 13-over 85, and finished 89th with a 33-over 249.
The Aggies conclude the season with two tournament victories and eight top five finishes. Texas A&M had 427 birdies on the season, which ranks third in the school record books, and seven rounds of par-or-better, which is fourth-most in school history.
