Aggie Men’s Tennis Leads NCAA with Five All-Americans
Jun 07, 2018 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M led the nation in men's tennis All-America selections this spring with five Aggies earning the honor. Twenty teams had at least one player honored in singles or doubles for 2018, but Texas A&M was the only school to put five different players on the list. UCLA, Florida and USC were second with four, and Memphis, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Tennessee had three each.
The five different players earning All-American honors this season bested Texas A&M's previous high of three set in the 2003, 2014 and 2015 season.
The Maroon & White trio of Arthur Rinderknech, Valentin Vacherot and Patrick Kypson earned All-American honors in singles action. Rinderknech and Kypson earned a national seed at the NCAA Singles Championship last month in Winston-Salem, while Vacherot advanced to the singles Round of 16 to earn the honor. Rinderknech became the Aggies first-ever three-time singles All-American, while the honor was the first for both Kypson and Vacherot.
Jordi Arconada and Juan Carlos Aguilar became the 15th All-American duo in Texas A&M history after earning the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship. The honor marked the sixth straight season that an Aggies doubles team have earned All-American designation and 10th under the direction of head coach Steve Denton, prior to Denton's arrival in College Station Texas A&M had produced just five All-American doubles tandems.
