Texas A&M’s Pickrem takes silver at Pan Pacs

TOKYO – Texas A&M senior swimmer Sydney Pickrem earned the silver medal while lowering her own Canadian national record in the 200-meter IM at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center.
Pickrem, from Dunedin, Fla., took second in the race with a time of 2:09.07, which surpassed her previous best of 2:09.17 at the 2017 FINA World Championships. With the new personal best, Pickrem moves up from No. 6 to No. 4 in the world in the 200 IM in 2018.
Teammate McKenna DeBever, representing Peru, placed seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.38.
2018 senior Bethany Galat won the B-final of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.41.
In other summer action involving Aggies, 2018 senior Beryl Gastaldello, representing France, was a part of two victorious relays at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Gastaldello anchored the winning 4x100 freestyle relay and helped the 4x100 mixed freestyle relay to victory. Additionally, Gastaldello broke her own French national record in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.86.
