BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five Aggies were named to the Preseason Coaches All-Southeastern Conference Team, the SEC office announced Thursday.
Junior running back Trayveon Williams and senior placekicker Daniel LaCamera were voted to the second team, and senior defensive lineman Landis Durham, junior offensive lineman Erik McCoy, and junior punter Braden Mann were named to the third team.
In 2017, Williams led Texas A&M's ground game with 798 yards and was second on the team with eight touchdowns. An offensive captain, Williams led all Aggie running backs with 20 receptions and 192 yards through the air, and was second on the team in all-purpose yards at 1,173.
LaCamera was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award last season, going 18-for-21 on field goals and 51-for-52 on extra points. In SEC action, the Tarpon Springs, Fla., native went 12-for-13 including the go-ahead field goal with 58 seconds left at Florida, earning SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Durham tied for the league lead with 10.5 sacks and was second on the team in tackles for loss at 12. The Plano, Texas, native recorded seven sacks against SEC opponents, which tied for third in the conference and was a half sack behind the league leader.
With McCoy as the starting center, the Aggies have averaged over 400 total yards per game in the last two seasons, while clearing the way for a 1,000-yard rusher (Trayveon Williams in 2016), a quarterback with 2,000-plus passing yards and 500-plus rushing yards (Trevor Knight in 2016), a quarterback with a 300 pass, 100 rush game (Kellen Mond vs. Arkansas, 2017) and a quarterback with two 400-plus passing games in a season (Nick Starkel, 2017).
Mann enters his first season as the Aggies' punter after spending the last two season as the kickoff specialist. The Houston native recorded 33 touchbacks and averaged 62.4 yards on 73 kickoffs in 2017 and 63.9 yards in 2016 with 72.4 percent of his kickoffs going for touchbacks.
The Aggies kick off the season Thursday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. CT against Northwestern State on the SEC Network.
