Sep 08, 2018 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies rebounded from an early second-half deficit to beat the Colorado College Tigers, 2-1, Friday night at Ellis Field. The victory gave the Aggies a 7-0-0 start for the first time since 1997 and just the third time in program history.
For the second consecutive match, the Aggies had to work around a weather delay. This time, the squads sat through a 44-minute delay with 3:40 remaining in the first half.
Texas A&M surrendered just its second goal of the season when Colorado College's Jacqui Hand scored on the secondary action off a free kick in the 55th minute.
The Aggies found themselves trailing for just the second time on the season. Just like the first time, the Maroon & White needed less than five minutes to get the equalizer. Ásdís Halldórsdóttir found the back of the net for the second consecutive match on an assist from Ally Watt, who had her five-game, goal-scoring streak snapped.
Rheagen Smith provided the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute as the Aggies were forced into a one-goal decision for the first time on the season.
For the match, Texas A&M dominated the tally for shots (23-7), shots-on-goal (7-3) and corner kicks (10-2).
GOAL SUMMARY
55' – After the initial free kick offering by Camille Weaver pinballed around in the penalty box, Kiley Suter was able to knock a pass out to Jacqui Hand who beat the Aggie keeper to the right for the icebreaker. CC 1, A&M 0.
60' – Watt skirted a pass out to Halldórsdóttir at the top of the penalty box to the left of the arc. With five Tigers within three yards of Halldórsdóttir, she ripped a right-footed shot from 20 yards into the right upper 90. A&M 1, CC 1.

TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Head Coach G Guerrieri
On the team's performance...
"I was pleased with their confidence. They didn't panic because the plan didn't go right initially. They stuck with it. I thought that Grace (Piper), Addie (McCain) and Ásdís (Halldórsdóttir) in the middle of the field really turned it around for us. It came down to some hard work by those guys. Ásdís had the great goal to tie it and then Kendall Ritchie has been making great services on set pieces all year and she sent in a great corner kick. Rheagen (Smith) did everything she could to get her head on that. She played great up front, especially in the second half."
Sophomore midfielder Addie McCain
On how difficult it was with the harsh conditions…
"It's pretty difficult, but I feel like we stuck to our game plan. We passed really well. We were just able to deal with it really well. It is difficult, but you just have to do what you do and just play. "
On how tough it was to play a team that was just going to sit back…
"It actually really tough. We feel like we played a few of those this year, especially in the beginning of the season. We expect that now, but it is tough. You just have to stick to your game plan, and pass it, move, and just do what you do and everything just eventually opens up the more you pass."
Sophomore forward Rheagen Smith,
On her pitch presence and her game-winning goal…
"I just felt amazing to score the game-winner. I had to run to the sideline to my secret weapon. We work hard every day in practice and I'm just thankful to have teammates that lift me up and make me better every day, on and off the field."
On the team's mindset while down 1-0…
"We just have to keep our focus and maintain our battle rhythm. They might have scored, but we have to fight even harder just to come back. We were able to do that. That's just what Aggies do. This crowd is the 12th Man and it just brings us up. I can't disappoint the crowd, and you have to give your 110% every time you step out onto the field."
