COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Soccer held its annual awards banquet Saturday evening to celebrate the 2018 campaign which culminated in the Aggies' 24 consecutive NCAA Championship bid.
The offensive Most Valuable Player honor was bestowed upon All-American and two-time All-Region Ally Watt, chosen as Midfield MVP, All-SEC 2nd Team Midfielder Addie McCain, and senior goalkeeper Cosette Morché tabbed Defensive MVP.
Ásdís Halldórsdóttir was awarded Newcomer of the Year after being selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team, while Watt won Leading Scorer by virtue of her 15 goals and 33 points. Kendall Ritchie was recognized for leading the team in assists during the 2018 season with seven.
McCain was celebrated for her dedication in the area of strength, conditioning and sports performance with the Maximum Performance Award. She was also awarded the title of Most Improved Player. She racked up 14 points on the season with six goals and two assists.
Jenna Byers was awarded for the second season in a row the "Farmers Fight" Perseverance Award, while Cienna Arrieta was awarded the 12th Man Award.
For her performance in the classroom, Claudette Lassandro earned the Lafield Academic Excellence Award. The senior also garnered The Spirit of Aggieland Award, for her positive attitudes as teammates, leaders and Aggies.
The event also honored athletes and staff in several athletic and academic areas. Awards included recognition from various soccer media organizations and other outlets apart from Texas A&M University.
In 2018, the Aggies finished the season with a 17-5-1 record, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Championship.
