BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M sophomore Taryn Milton was named SEC women's Field Athlete of the Week following her winning leap of 20-2 ¼ (6.15) at the Aggie Twilight on Saturday. Milton's effort was the best long jump among collegians this past weekend.
With a previous best of 19-7 ½ (5.98) from the Texas A&M Reveille meet in December, Milton matched that distance on her first attempt in the Twilight meet. She improved by half an inch in round five to 19-8 (5.99) and then produced her 20-foot effort in the final round.
Milton's career best of 20-2 ¼ ranks as the No. 9 performer on the Aggie all-time list and is currently equal seventh in the SEC for the 2019 indoor season. In the 60m hurdles, Milton has lowered her previous best of 8.45 from 2018 to 8.40 this season and ranks No. 12 on the A&M all-time list.
Texas A&M competes in the SEC Indoor Championships this weekend, February 22-23, at the University of Arkansas. Coverage of the meet will be available on SEC Network + live from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday and from 2:55 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
