Aggie alum Donavan Brazier wins USATF 600m in a world best 1:13.77

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK – Texas A&M alum Donavan Brazier set an all-time world best and American record of 1 minute, 13.77 seconds in winning the 600 meter title on Sunday at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships.

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK – Texas A&M alum Donavan Brazier set an all-time world best and American record of 1 minute, 13.77 seconds in winning the 600 meter title on Sunday at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships.
 
Brazier's time of 1:13.77 smashed the previous world best of 1:14.79 set by Kenya's Michael Saruni in 2018 while Saruni competed for UTEP. The previous American record of 1:14.91 was set in 2017 by Casimir Loxsom.
 
Earlier this season Brazier broke the American record in the 800m with a 1:44.41, which ranks fifth on the all-time world list. In his victory on Sunday he produced splits of 23.82, 24.26 (48.08) and 25.69 in dominating the field. Runner-up to Brazier was a 1:15.20 by Sam Ellison.
 
Just the fourth American currently among the all-time world top 10 in the 600m, Brazier's previous best in the event was 1:15.46 from earlier this season when he raced at Texas A&M's Gilliam Stadium. In the USATF prelims on Saturday, Brazier clocked 1:15.64.
