Aggie Pitchers Weave One-hit Win versus No. 17 TCU

HOUSTON, Texas – Four Aggie pitchers combined to hold the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs to one hit in Texas A&M's 1-0 victory Saturday evening at Minute Maid Park.

 

The victory moved the Maroon & White to 2-0 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic with both wins coming against top 25 foe.

 

Asa Lacy (3-0) put in a yeoman's effort, scattering one hit, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out nine over 7.0 innings. TCU's lone hit was a hot shot by Hunter Wolfe to third base to start the inning. The Horned Frogs got the leadoff hitter on in each of the first six innings but were unable to manufacture a run.

 

Bryce Miller and Joseph Menefee held the lead in the eighth, with Miller retiring two batters before issuing a walk. Menefee struck out the only batter he faced.

 

Kasey Kalich closed things out with his fourth save of the season. After walking the first batter he faced, Kalich induced a first-pitch fly ball to rightfield by Austin Henry and struck out Jake Guenther. The game ended with Aggie second baseman Bryce Blaum making a full-extension jumping snare of a line drive by Alex Isola.

 

UP NEXT

The Aggies (10-2) wrap up action at the Shriners Classic on Sunday with a 3 p.m. game against the Houston Cougars.

 

SCORING SUMMARY

B3| With one out, Allonte Wingate slapped a single through the right side of the infield. Zach DeLoach and Bryce Blaum each drew five-pitch walks to fill the bags with Ags and Logan Foster was issued a six-pitch base on balls to send Wingate home. A&M 1, TCU 0.
