NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M men and women are each ranked No. 2 in the outdoor preseason national team rating index released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
Preseason rating index information highlight a team's returning athletes who will have an impact on the national scale, using an athlete's collegiate personal best performances as a base.
The men's No. 1 team is Texas Tech, followed by the Aggies along with Alabama, Florida, BYU, Houston, Oregon, Texas, LSU and Georgia among the top 10. On the women's side, USC has the No. 1 position followed by Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, Oregon, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Colorado, and Florida amid the top 10.
Austin, Texas, will serve as host of the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 5-8, 2019 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
After opening the outdoor campaign this past weekend in Tempe, Arizona, the Aggies have five collegiate leaders for the outdoor season. They include Julia Madubuike (22.98w) in 200m, Ashton Hutcherson (10:41.57) in the 3,000m steeplechase, and the 4x400 relay (3:32.84) on the women's side along with Jace Comick (20.75) in the 200m and the 4x400 relay (3:06.65) on the men's side.
Another set of 15 Aggies produced marks that currently rank among the top five on the outdoor Division I collegiate list.
Kelsie Warren's 16:30.07 in the 5,000m is the Division I collegiate leader while Rachel Bernardo is second to teammate Hutcherson in the steeplechase with a 10:45.44. Tyra Gittens shares the Division I lead in the high jump with her winning effort of 5-11 ¼ (1.81). LaJarvia Brown ranks fifth in the triple jump with a 42-0 (12.80) performance.
Maddy Stulce ranks second in the javelin with a throw of 173-3 (52.82). Brenessa Thompson's 11.30 ranks second in 100m as does the 53.11 by Jaevin Reed in the 400m, while Jarra Owens is fourth with a 53.81. The Aggie women's 4x100 relay ranks equal third with a 43.86.
Nick Mirabelli won the javelin with a career best of 234-2 (71.37), which ranks second among collegians and is currently the top mark by a freshman, while Sam Hardin's 232-2 (70.77) ranks fourth in the javelin. A 51.26 in the 400m hurdles by Infinite Tucker ranks fourth.
Clearances of 17-5 (5.31) by Jacob Wooten and Robin Nool ranks both second in the pole vault while Carl Johansson is fifth with a mark of 17-1 (5.21).
The Aggies will compete in the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by UTSA on March 22-23 this week with the Texas Relays taking place the following week from March 27-30.
