AUSTIN, Texas – The Southeastern Conference Champion Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team opened the 2019 NCAA Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Wednesday at the University of Texas.
The Texas A&M foursome of senior Claire Rasmus, senior McKenna DeBever, sophomore Haley Yelle and senior Sydney Pickrem finished in a time of 6:57.75. Rasmus led off with a 1:44.25, followed by 1:45.29 and 1:45.26 efforts from DeBever and Yelle. Pickrem closed out the race with a strong 1:42.95 split.
With Day 1 in the books, the Aggies were in eighth place with 22 points. Stanford had the first day lead with 40 points, followed by California (34), USC (32), Michigan (30), Texas (28), Louisville (26), Wisconsin (24) and Texas A&M.
