Five Aggies Open Season on MLB Rosters

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies boasted five players on Major League Baseball rosters as Opening Day rolled around Thursday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies boasted five players on Major League Baseball rosters as Opening Day rolled around Thursday.
 
The list includes A.J. Minter (Atlanta Braves), Tyler Naquin (Cleveland Indians), Ross Stripling (Los Angeles Dodgers), Michael Wacha (St. Louis Cardinals) and Alex Wilson (Milwaukee Brewers).
 
Minter is entering his third season with the Atlanta Braves. Last season, Minter appeared on the mound in 65 games, posting a 0-1 record and 15 saves with a 3.23 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 61.1 innings.
 
Naquin enters his fourth season with the Cleveland Indians. In 2018, Naquin batted .264 with 22 runs, seven doubles, three home runs, six walks and 23 RBI in 61 games. Other numbers include a .295 on-base percentage and a .356 slugging percentage.
 
Ross Stripling is in his fourth season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last season, he made his first career All-Star Game appearance. Stripling pitched in 33 games for the Dodgers, including 21 starts. He posted an 8-6 record with a 3.02 ERA and a career high 136 strikeouts in 122 frames.
 
Michael Wacha begins his seventh season with the St. Louis Cardinals. Last season, he started in 15 games for the Cardinals. Wacha recorded an 8-2 record with a 3.20 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 84.1 innings. His career record stands at 53-32 with a 3.77 ERA and 655 strikeouts in 741.0 innings.
 
Alex Wilson starts his seventh Major League season, his first with the Milwaukee Brewers. Wilson played two years with the Boston Red Sox and four years with the Detroit Tigers. Last season with the Tigers, he appeared on the mound in 59 games. Wilson posted a 2-4 record with a 3.36 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 61.2 innings.
 
Two other Aggies, Daniel Mengden and Cliff Pennington, enter 2019 with Major League experience, but start the year with the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators. Mengden has played in three seasons for the Athletics. Last season, he logged a 7-6 record with a 4.05 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 115.2 innings. Pennington has played in 11 Major League seasons, including five with Oakland.
