COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Soccer standout Stephanie Malherbe has signed a contract with Swedish club Djurgårdens IF, the team recently announced.

Based in Stockholm, Djurgården plays in Damallsvenskan, the highest division of women's soccer in Sweden. The successful club has won two Damallsvenskan titles and three Svenska Cupen.

Malherbe will be one of two Aggies playing in Sweden in 2019. Dani Rice is currently a goalkeeper for KIF Örebro. The Damallsvenskan season starts on April 14, 2019. Djurgården and Örebro have their first meeting set for July 31.

In December 2018, Malherbe earned Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Science in Financial Management, graduating cum laude with a cumulative GPA above 3.6. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Scholar All-West Region Team in 2017.

Malherbe recorded 87 Aggie caps for her career, including 65 starts. She logged 15 points on four goals and seven assists.

Starting all 22 matches in 2017, Malherbe led the Aggies in minutes for a field player, logging 2,013 minutes. She helped the Aggies win 14 games in a row that season, a school record, and was part of a defense that did not allow a multi-goal game throughout SEC play.

An Olympian, Malherbe played for South Africa at the 2016 Rio Games. During her stint, she performed valiantly in a 1-0 loss to the USA in a warmup match and then played all 270 minutes in the Olympics, including a 0-0 draw against host Brazil.
