ST. LOUIS - Texas A&M women's basketball guard Chennedy Carter was named Second-Team All-America by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. She is the third Texas A&M player to receive All-America honors from the USBWA.

Carter, the only sophomore among the 15 players honored by the USBWA, joins Danielle Adams (2010-11) and Kelsey Bone (2012-13) as Texas A&M players to receive All-America honors from the USBWA. Prior to 2017-18, the organization announced a single 10-member team.

Carter finished the season averaging a school-record 23.3 points per game, good for eighth-best in the nation. She stepped up her average to an NCAA Tournament-leading 30.7 points during the Aggies' run to their eighth Sweet 16 appearance. She added 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

During the season, Carter also set Texas A&M records for consecutive 10-plus point games (39), career 20-plus point games (47), career 30-plus point games (11), sophomore season scoring (676) and fewest games to reach 1,000 career points (45).

Carter's season was highlighted by clutch performances that included a game-winning shot at Auburn (Jan. 24), scoring seven of the Aggies' last nine points to win at then-No. 11 Kentucky (Feb. 28), and assisting the go-ahead basket in the NCAA Second Round against Marquette (Mar. 24). In addition, she was named AP All-America, First-Team All-SEC, SEC Player of the Week twice, and MVP at the Maui Jim Maui Classic.

The Aggies concluded the 2018-19 season with their second straight Sweet 16 appearance and a 26-8 record, the program's best since 2010-11.
