BRYAN, Texas – The Texas A&M men's golf team honored its 2018-19 regular season as it handed out team awards at the annual Aggie Golf Day on Friday at Traditions Club, ahead of next week's SEC Championships. The program also recognized and welcomed back members of the 1969 Southwest Conference Championship team prior to the awards ceremony.

It was a big night for senior Chandler Phillips, who has already written his name throughout the all-time record books. The Aggie's all-time career wins leader was named this year's Most Valuable Player, as voted on by his teammates. Phillips was honored for his team-low 70.30 scoring average this season, while being named the Best Putter with 1.67 putts per greens in regulation, Best Scrambler (60-percent up and down) and earned the team's mental toughness award (-0.7 bounce back).

Freshman Sam Bennett was recognized as the team's Newcomer of the Year. He also earned the Best Driver Award landing 68-percent on fairways and Best Ball Striker with 72-percent greens in regulation in his debut season.

Sophomore Reese Ramsey earned the Robert Ellis Coach's Award, as well as the B.K. and Jane Watson Award for Academic Excellence, while freshman William Paysee was name the team's Most Improved Player.

The Aggies will travel to Saint Simons Island, Georgia, to begin postseason play at SEC Championships Wednesday, April 24. The Championships will run through Sunday, April 28 at Sea Island Golf Club. Â
