COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M freshmen Katya Townsend and Jayci Goldsmith were named to the All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman Team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

"Congratulations and well deserved to both Katya [Townsend] and Jayci [Goldsmith] for these awards," Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "This is just the beginning for them as they progress throughout their career here in Aggieland and that will continue to push our team to higher levels moving forward."

Townsend, a Coconut Creek, Florida native, played No. 1 singles in every SEC match this spring en route to a 15-6 dual record and six wins over ranked opponents and a No. 52 ranking in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Singles Rankings. Against then-No. 4 Vanderbilt, the right hander etched her name into the Texas A&M record books after claiming the highest ranked win by a freshman in program history, Townsend topped No. 3 Fernanda Contreras in straight sets as the Aggies upset the Commodores at the Mitchell Tennis Center. In doubles action, Townsend posted a 15-6 dual mark and an impressive 3-0 record against ranked foes.

Goldsmith, a Dropping Springs, Texas native, played No. 2 singles in every SEC match this spring, posting a 16-8 dual record, including three wins over ranked opponents and a No. 77 ranking. In doubles action, the left hander compiled a 17-8 dual mark and six ranked wins to earn the No. 33 ranking in doubles. Playing alongside sophomore Tatiana Makarova, Goldsmith topped the 10th ranked tandem of Jessica Golovin and Eden Richardson of LSU that claimed the 2018 NCAA Doubles Championship.

Texas A&M, which went 8-5 and earned fifth place in the SEC standings, is 22-7 after advancing to the semifinals of the SEC Women's Tennis Tournament. The Aggies, were eliminated by SEC regular-season champion Georgia, currently the No. 2 team in the nation, now await the NCAA Championship Selection Show, which reveals the 64-team field on April 29 at 5:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
