INDIANAPOLIS- Eight Texas A&M programs posted multi-year scores of over 990 on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates, it was announced Wednesday. Figures released cover the four-year period extending from the 2014-15 to 2017-18 school years.
Â
"Our student-athletes, with the help of our academic support staff, coaches and university faculty, have done a great job of being successful in the classroom as well as in competition," Texas A&M Interim Athletics Director RC Slocum said. "I am proud that our student-athletes' accomplishments have been reflected in the most-recent APR report."
Â
The Aggie women's cross country team earned a public recognition award for the third straight season, posting a perfect APR of 1000 in each report during that span. It is the fifth consecutive school year that at least one Texas A&M team has been rewarded with public recognition for their APR scores.
Â
In addition to women's cross country, seven other programs cleared 990 on their most-recent APR, led by women's swimming and diving (997), men's golf (995), men's swimming and diving (995), softball (994), women's tennis (993), women's golf (991) and volleyball (990).
Â
Soccer (988), men's cross country (985) and women's basketball (982) had scores above 980, and every Texas A&M program significantly cleared the NCAA-mandated threshold of 930.
Â
"We are excited to see the success of our student-athletes in the classroom reflected in the APR," Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services Joe Fields said. "Our goal is to continue preparing our student-athletes for graduation and life beyond athletics by improving their academic success."
Â
The Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. It also serves as a predictor of graduation success. The NCAA's Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions. An APR of 930 translates to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
