"Blanca is a terrific young lady," Gaston said. "She brings a wealth of international tournament experience to our team, and are confident that she is going to make an immediate impact on our program."

Fernández García-Poggio led Spain to the 2017 World Junior Girls Championship, shooting a team-best 7-under, which tied for third individually. She helped Spain to a second-place finish at the 2018 European Girls' Team Championship, and helped the Community of Madrid to a second-place finish at the 2017 national team championship. Additionally, she represented Europe in the 2018 Patsy Hankins Trophy, a Ryder Cup-style event that faces the best amateurs from Europe against those from the Asia-Pacific region.

Individually, the Madrid native won the 2016 and 2017 U16 Spanish Championship, and won the 2018 Spanish International tournament, one year after finishing second in the same event.

She has been ranked as high as 92 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, which features both college, prep and other amateur players, before battling injuries over the past year. She currently ranks 323rd in the WAGR.
