Mond Named to O'Brien Award Watch List

Texas A&M's Kellen Mond has been named to the 2019 O'Brien Award Watch List, announced Tuesday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.

FORT WORTH, Texas– Texas A&M's Kellen Mond has been named to the 2019 O'Brien Award Watch List, announced Tuesday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.

Mond, a junior quarterback from San Antonio, Texas, tallied over 30 touchdowns a season ago as he saw an increase in every statistical category from his freshman campaign. The right-hander finished fourth in total offense, fifth in touchdowns through the air and sixth in passing yardage in the Southeastern Conference.

Compiled by a subset of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee, the list was selected based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2019 college football season. All nominees are required to have previously started at least one game at their current institution. In addition, any player who was a finalist or semifinalist the previous year is automatically included.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. Appearing on the watch list is not a requirement for a player to win the award. Quarterbacks from all 130 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools are eligible.

The O'Brien Watch List is the second watch list of the summer that Mond has been named to, earning a spot on the Maxwell Watch List on Monday.

Texas A&M opens 2019 against Texas State on August 29 at Kyle Field, a Thursday night contest set to be broadcast on SEC Network.
