Keep Up With Aggie Women's Golf This Summer

Even though Texas A&M isn't competing as a team this summer, the Aggie women's golfers have been busy playing in prestigious tournaments this summer. Stay tuned to this page for the updates on current & former Aggie women's golfers.

Texas A&M women's golf kept busy over the summer, playing in numerous big-time events across the country.

Amber Park posted two top-10 finishes, tying for sixth at the Porter Cup in June then tying for eighth at the Ladies National Golf Association in late July. Brooke Tyree also posted impressive results, reaching the semifinals of the Women's Western Amateur and earning medalist honors at the Louisiana Women's Amateur Championship.

The Aggies also challenged themselves in some of the premier events of the summer, with Elizabeth Caldarelli and Courtney Dow qualifying for the U.S. Women's Amateur. Park participated in the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship, and along with teammate Ava Schweinteck, competed in a professional event, the Texas Women's Open.

August 5-11 - U.S. Women's Amateur
Old Waverly CC - West Point, Miss.
Courtney Dow - 76-77=153 (+9)
Elizabeth Caldarelli - 80-79=159 (+15)

Courtney Dow and Elizabeth Caldarelli both competed in the U.S. Women's Amateur in West Point, Miss., each registering three birdies on Old Waverly. Dow shot a 9-over 153, and Caldarelli shot a 15-over 159, both missing the cut.

July 29-August 1 - 89th Ladies National Golf Association (formerly Women's Trans-National)

Amber Park - 72-71-69-74=286 (+2) - T8th
Brooke Tyree - 76-75-73-76=300 (+16) - T37th

Amber Park tied for eighth at the 89th Ladies National Golf Association Amateur Championship on Thursday, shooting a final-round 74 to finish 2-over for the tournament. Four other Aggies were in the field at the Golf Club of Tennessee, with Brooke Tyree and Ava Schwienteck making the cut. Tyree shot a 16-over 300, tying for 37th and Schwienteck tied for 53rd at 19-over 303. Elizabeth Caldarelli missed the cut with a 36-hole score of 156 (+14).

July 23-26 - Canadian Women's Amateur Championship
Red Deer G&CC - Red Deer, Alberta
Amber Park - 70-78-76-76=300 (+12) - T48th

Amber Park tied for 48th at the Canadian Women's Open, shooting a 12-over 300. She was tied for eighth after the first round, where she drained six birdies, including four in a five-hole span on the back nine.

July 15-20 - Women's Western Amateur

Elizabeth Caldarelli - Qualifying: 80-76=156 (+12) - T-41st


Brooke Tyree reached the semifinals of the Women's Western Amateur, putting together an impressive performance in Long Grove, Ill. Tyree qualified in seventh, then cruised to a 5&4 win in the Round of 32. She came back from a 2 Down deficit after three holes in the Round of 16 to win 4&2, then won the 18th hole of the quarterfinal to win 1 Up. She fell 4&3 in the semifinals. Elizabeth Caldarelli missed the cut for match play by two strokes, but finished a respectable T-41st in a 119-player field.
 
July 15-19 - North & South Women's Amateur
Pinehurst No. 2 - Pinehurst, N.C.
Courtney Dow - 81-76=157 (+15)
Ava Schwienteck - 78-79=157 (+15)

Courtney Dow and Ava Schwienteck both competed at the North & South Women's Amateur, but both missed the cut. Dow's tournament was highlighted by three straight birdies in the second round, while Schwienteck had 14 pars in her first round.

July 7-9 - Texas Women's Open
Firewheel Golf Park - Garland, Texas
Ava Schwienteck - 76-79=155 (+11)
Amber Park - 77-82=159 (+15)

Ava Schwienteck and Amber Park both competed as amateurs at the Texas Women's Open in Garland, a professional event, but both missed the cut.

June 23-26 - 91st Louisiana Women's Amateur Championship
Country Club of Louisiana - Baton Rouge, La.
Brooke Tyree - Qualifying: 72 (E) - 1st
Won 8&6 in Round of 16
Lost 3&2 in Quarterfinals 

Brooke Tyree won the Allee B. Chatham Medalist Trophy as the only player to shoot even par or better at the 91st Louisiana Women's Amateur Championship. Tyree won the stroke play portion by two shots, earning the No. 1 seed for the match play portion with four birdies in her round. She cruised to an 8&6 victory in the Round of 16, before falling 3&2 to Alden Wallace of LSU in the Quarterfinals.

Lost 5&4 in Round of 16

Stephanie Astrup fell 5&4 in the round of 16 at her country's national match play championship.

June 11-15 - The Women's Amateur Championship (Women's British Amateur)
Royal County Down GC - Newcastle, Northern Ireland
Courtney Dow - 79-77=156 (+10) - T91st
Courtney Dow just missed the cut for match play at the Women's British Amateur, shooting 79-77 to come three strokes off the pace. She finished the tournament strong, shooting a bogey-free 1-under 36 on the last nine at Royal Country Down. She played the back nine at 1-over for the tournament.

June 3-7 - Porter Cup
Niagara Falls CC - Niagara, N.Y.
Amber Park - 75-72-68=215 (-1) - T6th
Amber Park started her summer season with a strong sixth-place finish at the prestigious Porter Cup, held at Niagara Falls Country Club. After a first-round 3-over 75, Park bounced back to shoot 72 in the second round then a 4-under 68 in Friday's final round to finish 1-under. Park was 3-over with eight holes to play before coming in with four birdies in eight holes—part of 10 birdies she had over the final two rounds. Penn State's Jackie Rogowicz won the event at 8-under 208.

June 3-7 - Women's Southern Amateur
Lockwood Folly CC - Hidden Beach, N.C.
Elizabeth Caldarelli - Qualifying: 79 (+7) - T-29th
Lost 2&1 in Round of 32
Lost 4&3 in Consolation Quarterfinals

Elizabeth Caldarelli started her summer at Lockwood Folly CC, qualifying for the championship bracket in the Women's Southern Amateur. She lost in the first round of match play, 2&1, but it was to the competitor who would go on to win the event.

May 23-26 - Zimmer Biomet Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez
Lake Course at Grand National - Auburn, Ala.
Maddie Szeryk - 70-68-69-71=278 (-10) - 2nd 
Former Texas A&M All-American Maddie Szeryk had the best finish of her young career as a professional on the Symetra Tour, shooting a 10-under 278 to finish second. She went under-par each round, highlighted by a second-round 68, to finish two strokes behind Nuria Iturrios.
