Fresh off of earning a silver medal at the Pan American Games with the Colombian National Team, redshirt senior Camila Gomez spoke with Scott Retzlaff about the National Team experience, her path to Aggieland, and expectations entering her final year of college volleyball.

SR – Take us through your recent experience with the Colombian National Team at the Pan-American Games.

CG - It was amazing if I had to describe it in one word. It was also important for me since I didn't play last year. It will help me to get ready for the upcoming season.

SR – You had a surprise at the airport when you returned to College Station with your Aggie teammates welcoming you home. How much did that mean to you?

CG - My teammates make everything so special. It was a great surprise and meant a lot to me. It was a nice way to finish the trip.

SR – What's the key for you now that you're back in College Station with your teammates?

CG - We're just trying to build chemistry, and my teammates are helping me a lot. They communicate with me a lot and are doing what they can to help.

SR – You're from Colombia and went to Junior College in Miami. What attracted you to Texas A&M and Aggie Volleyball?

CG - It's funny, because the coaching staff found me. I've played on the Colombian National Team since 2010, so they knew me from there. Coach Camargo called me in February of last year, and the rest is history.

SR -  What were your expectations of Texas A&M, and how has the experience lived up to those expectations?

CG - I didn't know anything about Texas A&M until I got here, to be honest. When I got here, I was just impressed. The facilities, the people, the conference we play in…it all just amazed me.

SR – Do you have a favorite Texas A&M tradition?

CG - The Aggie Ring is one of my favorites, because you're going to have it for the rest of your life.

SR – What's your outlook for the 2019 team and the upcoming season?

CG - I think the coaching staff has done a great job. I have a lot of expectations, and I think we can do amazing things. We just have to work for it, because it's not easy. We play a lot of great teams this year, so we need to work hard and be focused.

SR – Do you feel any pressure with 2019 being your final season of college volleyball?

CG - I see it as a great opportunity. We have a lot of expectations as a team, and I think that's a great sign. I'm just ready to go and ready to help my teammates.

SR -  What's been the highlight of your volleyball career up to this point?

CG - I think I just had it at the Pan-American Games, and also right now just being here at this school. I think playing at Texas A&M and playing for the National Team are both amazing points of my career.
