Texas A&M’s Kumar and Rollins Advance to the Quarterfinals in Midland

MIDLAND, Texas – Texas A&M's Pranav Kumar and Pierce Rollins stormed into the quarterfinals of The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational Friday at The Racquet Club of Midland. A&M's Rollins and Barnaby Smith reached the second round of the doubles draw with wins Friday evening.

MIDLAND, Texas – Texas A&M's Pranav Kumar and Pierce Rollins stormed into the quarterfinals of The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational Friday at The Racquet Club of Midland. A&M's Rollins and Barnaby Smith reached the second round of the doubles draw with wins Friday evening.
 
Rollins, a freshman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, posted impressive wins over Javier Ruiz of Utah State and Jake Trandson of New Mexico to reach the quarterfinals in his first collegiate tournament. Rollins is set to square off against Sebastian Rodriguez of UTSA on Saturday for a place in the semifinals. The left-hander finished the day with a doubles win alongside Smith against Dimitrios Azoidis and Taine Bernhard of Abilene Christian.
 
Kumar, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, joined Rollins in the quarterfinals with wins over Alan Sanson of UTSA and Diaz Jalil of UTA. Kumar is set to face off against Franco Ribero of Texas Tech in Saturday's quarterfinals. Kumar and sophomore Guido Marson fell to Trondson and Facundo Bermejo of New Mexico in the first round of doubles action.
 
Smith and Marson posted first round wins to make the Aggies 4-0 in round one. In second round action, Smith fell to Kai Breitbach of UTSA while Marson was forced to retire against Juri Reckow of UTSA.
 
Texas A&M sent four student-athletes to the singles and doubles event that features the likes of Texas Tech, TCU and New Mexico, among others.
 
The remainder of the Aggies will see tournament action throughout the fall, beginning with the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California on September 26. The Maroon & White return a trio of players that earned All-American honors a season ago, the most of any SEC team.
