FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas A&M women's tennis won five of nine matches on day one of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge hosted by TCU in Fort Worth on Friday. The Aggies are slated to take on opponents from Texas Tech, Georgia and TCU over the weekend.

"It was a very productive day for us in regards to getting some very competitive matches," Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "Nearly every singles match came down to the wire in some very difficult conditions. Winning two of the three doubles matches against Georgia was good, they were basically the No. 1 team all year before losing in the NCAA finals against Stanford. The six matches we played against Texas Tech were all hard fought matches. I was very impressed with Renee's [McBryde] attitude, fight and her willingness to stay positive when things weren't going her way. She was able to make some strategic changes to turn her match around when things weren't looking great."

Texas A&M claimed two of three doubles matches against Georgia to open the day's action. A&M's Lucia Quiterio and Jessica Anzo earned a 6-3 results against Georgia's Morgan Coppoc and Lea Ma while Riley McQuaid and Renee McBryde skunked, 6-0, the Bulldog pair of Marta Gonzalez and Alee Clayton.

The Aggies finished the day splitting six tightly contested singles matches against Texas Tech as four went three sets. A&M earned singles wins by McBryde, Quiterio, and Anzo.

The Aggies begin play against Texas Tech in singles action on Friday at 1:45 p.m. followed by doubles matches against Georgia at 3:30 p.m. and will continue through Sunday.
