COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M swimming & diving programs remain nationally ranked after the College Swimming Coaches Association of America released its first poll of the season Wednesday. The women move in the rankings to No. 16, while men jump to No. 7 after both teams picked up big wins over the weekend. The men finished with a last-minute win, beating the No. 5 Buckeyes, 153-147, and the women took down No. 14, 174-109.
Shaine Casas led the leaderboard, placing first in every event he participated in, including 200 Medley Relay (1:27.37), 100 Back (48.04), 200 Back (1:44.78) and 100 Fly (47.73). SEC Diver of the Week Victor Povzner had a successful first collegiate meet, finishing first in the 3-Meter dive with a score of 428.33 and fifth in the 1-Meter dive, 335.85.
The women competed strongly with multiple first-place finishes. Senior Raena Eldridge earned first in the 50 Free (23.15) and the 100 Free (51.04), Anna Belousova also placed first in both 100 Breast (1:02.33) and 200 Breast (2:16.48). Sophomore Emma Carlton notched double firsts as well in the 100 Back (53.83) and 100 Butterfly (53.82). Junior Charlye Campbell swept the diving events for the first time in her career, earning 301.88 points in the 1-meter and 278.17 in the 3-meter.
