Farmers Claim Game One of the Omaha Cup Championship Series

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Two RBI apiece from Cam Blake and Trevor Werner and a solid starting performance on the mound by Dustin Saenz led the Farmers to a 7-2 victory over the Plowboys in Monday's opener of the Omaha Cup Championship Series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Two RBI apiece from Cam Blake and Trevor Werner and a solid starting performance on the mound by Dustin Saenz led the Farmers to a 7-2 victory over the Plowboys in Monday's opener of the Omaha Cup Championship Series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
 
Saenz worked 4.0 scoreless frames, scattering two hits and one walk while striking out five to pick up the win.
 
Blake batted 2-for-4 with two RBI and Werner hit 2-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and two RBI to pace the Farmers. Logan Sartori chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with one double and one stolen base.
 
Bryce Blaum hit 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Plowboys. Ray Alejo batted 2-for-3.
 
The Farmers drew first blood in the bottom of the first. Blake and Mikey Hoehner singled to start the frame. After a pop up to first base by Sartori, Blake was caught stealing with Hoehner ending up at second. Hoehner stole second base and scored on a wild pitch to break the scoring seal.
 
The Farmers tacked on four more runs in the fourth. An RBI single Werner and a two-run single by Blake keyed the rally. Izzy Lopez also knocked in a run with a groundout as the Farmers' cushion inflated to 5-0.
 
The Plowboys trimmed to runs off the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run double by Blaum.
 
The Famers answered back with a two-spot of their own in the home half of the fifth. Runs scored on an RBI single by Werner and a throwing error.
 
The second game of the Championship Series is slated for Thursday at 3 p.m. with the finale scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
