COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team opens the fall season with a doubleheader Friday against Weatherford College at Davis Diamond. Game one is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, while game two is slated for 6 p.m.
Admission is free throughout the fall season.
The Aggies, who are coming off their 18th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, return 16 letterwinners from last season's team, including seven starters.
Kelbi Fortenberry returns after pacing the Maroon & White last season with a .343 average and recorded a career-high 62 hits in her junior campaign. Two-way player Payton McBride belted five homeruns and led the team with 30 RBI.
The Aggies return all four pitchers, (Kendall Potts, Payton McBride, Kayla Poynter and Hannah Mayo) along with three newcomers (Ashley Daugherty, Makinzy Herzog and Shaylee Ackerman) looking to make their mark in the circle in the 2020 season.
Weatherford College finished the 2019 season with a 34-21 record and a 19-13 ledger in conference action. The fourth seeded Coyotes went 3-2 at the NTJCAC Regional Tournament.
