NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Texas A&M tennis' No. 45 Valentin Vacherot earned a pair of ranked wins including his first career top-10 victory to advance to the semifinals of the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Friday at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
Vacherot earned a pair of three-set victories as he outlasted No. 44 Svan Lah of Baylor before claiming the highest ranked win of his career over No. 8 Daniel Cukierman of USC. The Frenchman is set to take on No. 4 Yaya Ito of Texas in the semifinals on Saturday.
No. 16 Hady Habib dropped a 7-6(5), 6-3 result to No. 43 Richard Ciamarra of Notre Dame in the main draw semifinals while No. 13 Carlos Aguilar was tripped up 7-6(5), 6-1 by No. 23 Alex Brown of Illinois in the consolation bracket.
The Aggies were the only SEC team to qualify three student-athletes to the final tournament of the fall and one of five teams nationally.
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 128 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (64 men and 64 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's team and 32 women's teams). In its third year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, it is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions playing in the same tournament.
