SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico--Texas A&M posted a strong start to the Battle at the Beach on a sunny Friday at San Jose Del Cabo's Club Campestre, firing an 8-over 296 to sit in second place just three shots off the lead.
Senior Courtney Dow and freshman Blanca Fernández García-Poggio both carded 1-under 71s on the afternoon to sit in a tie for fifth individually. They are three shots back of the leader, LSU's Ingrid Lindblad.
Sophomore Brooke Tyree (76, +4) and juniors Amber Park (78, +6) and Ava Schwienteck (84, +12) rounded out the Aggie effort.
LSU (293, +5) leads the field with the Aggies three shots back. Vanderbilt (298, +10), host TCU (299, +11) and Virginia Tech and San Jose State (300, +12) round out the top five.
The Aggies will tee off Saturday's second round with a 10:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Live scoring is available on 12thman.com.

"It was a grind out there today. The wind was blowing probably just as hard as yesterday, and when you only have one round to learn the course, I think there's still things we can clean up for tomorrow. Playing in windy conditions is great for our team, because you've got to get good at it. Having to manage that, we did a good job of it today but I know we can do better.
"It was great to see a lot of great shots being made today, just a few too many bogeys. If we can get a little better at that, we're going to have a great round tomorrow. I think we're ready for it. Great performances today by Courtney and Blanca. It's so fun to watch them make great shots."
