Tournament Preview: Texas A&M Invite

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Softball welcomes Lamar, Longwood and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi to Davis Diamond as it hosts its final non-conference tournament of the season Friday through Sunday.
Action begins Friday at 10 a.m. with Lamar and Longwood, while Texas A&M opens against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at 3 p.m., before squaring off with Lamar at 5:15. On Saturday, the Aggies face off against Lamar at 12:15 p.m. and Longwood at 3 p.m. Sunday's finale at 12:15 p.m. features Texas A&M and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

The Aggies are looking to snap a three-game losing skid after falling to Houston, 9-3, Wednesday night. Texas A&M is led offensively by Riley Sartain and Kelbi Fortenberry, who top the team with .421 and .419 batting averages, respectively. Sartain leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including home runs (5), doubles (4), RBI (12), walks (8), on-base percentage (.551) and slugging percentage (.921).
In the circle, Payton McBride paces the pitching staff with six wins, which ranks third in the SEC and 21st nationally. Kendall Potts has added two victories and Kayla Poynter has one.
Texas A&M holds a 9-0 advantage over Lamar in series history. The two teams previously met in a midweek contest last season as the Aggies shutout the Cardinals, 8-0.
Saturday's contest marks the first time the Aggies and Lancers have met on the diamond.
Texas A&M and the Islanders have met 12 times prior to this weekend with the Aggies holding an 11-1 advantage. The Aggies have won the last five meetings against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi including 13-0 and 10-0 victories in 2016. Texas A&M hitting coach Keith Stein previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Islanders from 2013-16.
