COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 24 Texas A&M women's tennis opens Southeastern Conference play against No. 34 Auburn Friday at 5 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
"Our group is very excited and confident as we open SEC play against Auburn," Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "We are playing some very good tennis and competing very hard for every point and at every position. I am very pleased with the position that we have put ourselves in as we approach our SEC home opener."
The Maroon & White look to open the season with 13 wins in their first 14 matches for the first time since the 2013 season. The Aggies look to match the 2012 and 2013 squads for the best 14-match stretch to open a season in program history, the '13 team raced out to a 15-1 mark before falling in the NCAA Championship Finals.
The Aggies swept SMU on Wednesday in their final tune-up before conference play began. A&M was propelled to victory behind an impressive doubles point and a pair of ranked wins by Katya Townsend and Tatiana Makarova along with straight-set wins from Jayci Goldsmith, Renee McBryde, Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio.

The lefthander inched up three spots to No. 86 as she stands at 12-1 this spring and 21-3 overall. Townsend and McBryde are the lone ranked doubles team for the Aggies, entering the rankings at No. 52 after earning the Aggies' first ranked doubles win of the season at Oklahoma.
A&M has posted a 64-9 singles record and 24-4 doubles mark in dual matches this spring. Faa-Hviding has a team-high seven match win streak while sophomore Riley McQuaid has won 14 of her last 15 matches.
