COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies host the Lamar Cardinals in a 6:30 p.m. contest Tuesday on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Aggies look to continue the outstanding play of their six-game win streak, which includes a series sweep at Kentucky in which the Maroon & White outscored the Wildcats 31-11. The Aggies raised their batting average 13 points over the weekend, batting .350 (43-for-123) at Kentucky with 11 doubles, two triples and five home runs.
Braden Shewmake's recent performance has been player-of-the-week worthy, including batting .625 (10-for-16) in the series sweep at Kentucky with five runs, one double, two home runs and nine RBI. He hit 5-for-6 in the finale. After batting just .185 (5-for-27) the first eight games of 2019, Shewmake has caught fire the last 18 contests, hitting. 388 (31-for-80) with 21 runs and 26 RBI
Ty Coleman and Jonathan Ducoff have also heated up recently. After starting the season batting .214 (6-for-28) with five runs and seven RBI in the Aggies' first 14 games (through March 3), Coleman is hitting .386 (17-for-44) in the last 12 games, logging 12 runs and 15 RBI. Through 20 games, Ducoff was batting just .148 (4-for-27) with five runs and nine RBI. In the last six games, he is hitting .360 (9-for-25) with three runs and 11 RBI.
Texas A&M pitchers are holding opponents to a .186 batting average with runners in scoring position, striking out 78 of the 240 batters they have faced in the situation. The Aggies are holding opponents to a .163 batting average with runners in scoring position and two outs.
