Apr 30, 2019 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women's tennis freshman, Katya Townsend, was named to the 2019 Women's Tennis Singles Championship field, the NCAA announced Tuesday afternoon.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 20-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 16-19. The University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission are serving as hosts for the championships.
Townsend, a Coconut Creek, Florida native, played No. 1 singles in every SEC match this spring en route to a 15-6 dual record and six wins over ranked opponents. Against then-No. 4 Vanderbilt, the right hander etched her name into the Texas A&M record books after claiming the highest ranked win by a freshman in program history, Townsend topped No. 3 Fernanda Contreras in straight sets as the Aggies upset the Commodores at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
