Texas A&M’s Tybur Earns Gold at 2019 World University Games

NAPOLI, Italy – Current and former Texas A&M swimmers concluded action at the 2019 World University Games at the Piscina Scandone pool in Napoli, Italy.
On the final day of action, Team USA called up Jonathan Tybur to swim in the 400-meter medley relay in the preliminary round. Team USA finished first (3:33.95) and Tybur had a 1:00.67 split in the breaststroke leg. Team USA came in first in the finals, swimming a 3:33.02, as Tybur would earn gold with his preliminary swim.
Team Mexico finished tenth (3:40.91) after also competing in the 400-meter medley relay. Juan Rocha led off the relay team with his best time (56.50), followed by A&M's Mauro Castillo (1:00.50) and Alberto Gomez (54.03).
In other action, Castillo placed 23rd in the preliminary round of the 50-meter breaststroke, finishing with a time of 28.27. Rocha competed in the 200-meter backstroke, finishing 26th and having his best preliminary time of 2:03.54.
In addition, Jorie Caneta represented Team USA and finished fifth in the women's 50-meter breaststroke (31.43). She advanced to the semifinals and placed ninth (31.54).
Texas A&M swimmers will shift their attention to the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Competition will begin July 21 at the Aquatics Centre.
