LOS ANGELES - The No. 3 Valentin Vacherot and No. 10 Hady Habib of the Texas A&M men's tennis team advanced to the third round at the 2020 Sherwood Collegiate Cup presented by the Sherwood Country Club Friday evening. The No. 9 Aggies are joined at the tournament by student-athletes from No. 3 USC, No. 11 UCLA and No. 12 Stanford.
Vacherot, a senior from Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, advanced to the third round with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Filip Kolasinski of Stanford in the second round after receiving a first round bye. Habib, a junior from Houston, claimed a pair of ranked wins to reach Saturday's third round. Habib bested No. 64 Ryder Jackson and teammate Pierce Rollins, ranked No. 74 nationally, in straight sets.
Saturday's matches will open with two rounds of doubles action followed by one round of singles play.
