COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M volleyball hosted its annual team banquet at the All-American Club at Kyle Field on Friday evening, presenting multiple student-athletes with awards celebrating their hard work throughout the 2019 season.
SEC Coach of the Year Laura "Bird" Kuhn headlined the list of presenters, with associate head coach Kolby O'Donnell, assistant coach Wendel Camargo, director of operations Kimberly Williams, athletic trainer Rebecca Himes and scholastic supervisor Harper Fletcher rounding out the lineup. Regardless of the awards presented, the staff expressed great pride in the efforts of every athlete, congratulating them on a stellar season, which saw the Aggies reach the Regional Semifinal of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
Junior Camille Conner and senior Haley Slocum shared the prestigious Aggie Excellence Award, which highlights the athlete or athletes that best exemplify what it means to be an Aggie. The award focuses on the students that represent Texas A&M's core values of respect, integrity, leadership, excellence, loyalty and selfless service. Conner served as the team's captain for the season, acting as an extension of the coaching staff on the court, earning selections as a member of the All-SEC Team, AVCA All-South Region Team and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. Slocum worked as the team's spark plug off the bench, while setting the bar high for community service after being recognized as a member of the SEC Community Service Team for the second consecutive year.
The Most Valuable Player award was presented to senior outside hitter Hollann Hans, who finished the season ranked first on the team in points (625.0), points per set (5.34), kills (534), kills per set (4.56), service aces (59) and service aces per set (0.50). Over the course of her time in Aggieland, Hans has set countless career, season and individual match records that will stand the test of time. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native earned selections to the All-SEC Team, AVCA South All-Region Team and AVCA All-America Second Team.
Freshman outside hitter Treyaunna Rush received the team's Most Improved Player award. The honor is bestowed upon the player who made the biggest improvements from the first day of preseason practice to the last day of the season.
Sophomore defensive specialist Allison Fields and junior middle blocker Morgan Davis received the Unsung Hero award. This award is presented to the person or persons that worked incredibly hard and had key contributions to the team, but may not have received as much recognition as other teammates. Fields also earned her second consecutive team wellness award, celebrating her commitment to health and fitness.
Fourteen members of the volleyball team were recognized as members of the Texas A&M Athletic Director Honor Roll, earning a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall. London Austin-Roark, Karly Basham, Madison Bowser, Camille Conner, Lauren Davis, Morgan Davis, Allison Fields, Camila Gomez, Hollann Hans, Makena Patterson, Samantha Sanders, Haley Slocum, Mallory Talbert and Taylor Voss were included on the list. Eleven of those students went on to be included in the SEC Honor Roll for the fall semester.
Following the awards presentation, the team's four seniors were presented with a framed jersey and charm commemorating their years of effort in the Maroon & White. Camila Gomez, Hollann Hans, Makena Patterson and Haley Slocum were honored.
