Aggies Bring New Energy into Season Opener

The Aggie softball team is in high spirits coming into its season opener on Friday.

The Aggie softball team is in high spirits coming into its season opener on Friday.  Seven freshmen, two transfers, and two new coaches join the Aggies this spring.

With a young roster and coaching changes, the Aggies are ready to get back onto the field. Head Coach Jo Evans is fired up about the start of the season.

“I’m just excited to see how it all comes together,” Evans said.  “Our chemistry is great right now, so I’m excited for them to play together and see how we perform with a little bit of pressure.”

This year’s team has been very supportive of each other, Evans noted, helping the team move on from last year to focus on a fresh start.

“It’s been fun to watch them grow together after the challenges we faced last year,” Evans said. “Coming into this year feeling like you have all 25 people on board feels really good.”

Senior Kelbi Fortenberry described her excitement for this year’s team as well.

“Every time someone asks me about this year’s team I get goosebumps,” Fortenberry said.

The team genuinely cares about one another, Fortenberry said, noting that this team’s bond is very special.

“There are teams that care about each other on the softball field, but we care about each other on and off the softball field,” Fortenberry said.  “It’s a really close-knit group and you’ll be able to tell once we step on the field.”

Senior Payton McBride also noted the team’s special bond.

“This is the first year I’ve seen everyone on the team get along,” McBride said.“We all mesh really well together.”

The Aggies have been working really hard preparing for the season and are eager to face new challenges, McBride said. Now the season is here and it’s time to see how much their hard work will pay off.

“This is it, this is what we’ve all been working for,” McBride said.
