How have your day-to-day duties changed since the quarantine?

My day to day duties have changed , because I've become a full time teacher. I need to get my certification now. I'm a full time secondary teacher. I spend way more time now on Zoom calls and phone calls now than I normally do. I used to think I was on my phone a lot, but now I'm on there triple the amount of time. Basketball lessons are now just conversations. Instead of working kids out, now we talk about life and talk about everything with our current players, and then we have been busy in recruiting, and then you try to wind it all up and try to find time to have a meal and spend time with your family. I think the best thing that has come out of this is delivery, grocery deliveries, not having to go inside the grocery stores and having someone bring it to your front door. That's something I may never go back to.

How has it been home-schooling your daughter?

She's a lot like me, so it was challenging in the beginning, but I've learned to do a lot of things hands-on. So, we have her core lesson and then we will try to change it and do some stuff digitally like play games that reinforce the lesson. We actually break down the lesson and do real-life things. So, if we're learning about plants and stuff we will actually break open a plant and play in dirt and do stuff like that. It was challenging in the beginning, now it's just become fun trying to make it a game. Since I'm not her normal teacher, I'm not going to try to pretend to be anymore. I'm just trying to be mom and find different ways to help her learn.

What have you been doing to maintain your mental health?

I have been journaling. It's something I used to do off and on, and right now I'm trying to pay a lot more attention and being aware of everything, because you can get overwhelmed trying to move from one thing to the next, whether it's household or whether it's parenting. You kind of wear all of those different hats, and sometimes you forget the hat of just being yourself. Journaling has helped me with that quite a bit. I try to stay true to it and find some meditation time early in the morning before I workout.
