Get to know volleyball athletic trainer, Becca Himes.
What's your favorite part about your job?
"I don't think there is just one favorite part of my job, but I really enjoy getting to serve others and have that 'front seat' in their college journey. You quickly realize that I am not just there for the injury and the worst case situation, but all the in between as well. To be able to support and see the obstacles each student-athlete overcomes, the sacrifices they make to train and compete at a high level, and the role models/leaders they become in the community is just super special! But that feeling when you see a person walk into your office two weeks after saving their life or seeing an athlete step back on the court after months of hard work post injury or being a part of a staff/team that drops everything to support a teammate at her father's funeral. It's all of it! It's just special!"
How did you get into becoming an athletic trainer?
"I knew from my first 'take your child to work day' that sitting behind a computer wasn't for me. Talk about boring! I was always into sports and really enjoyed my high school biology class. After our field trip to open heart surgery, I decided to take sports medicine as an elective and it just kind of clicked. The class was hands on and I quickly realized I could go a lot of different career directions. It was a challenge to find somewhere I could play basketball and study athletic training. Not many programs allowed both due to the clinic hours athletic training was going to require, but I was thankful Salisbury University supported me in both. It wasn't easy, but definitely worth the incredible experience!"
What's one of your favorite memories from being an athletic trainer?
"My favorite memory with Texas A&M Volleyball has to be all the great dance battles during our matches."
