Texas A&M’s Tyree Advances to 92nd Louisiana Amateur Final

COVINGTON, La. – Texas A&M rising junior golfer Brooke Tyree advanced to the final of the 92nd annual Louisiana Women's Amateur with a match play upset of the tournament's top seed on Tuesday at the Tchefuncta Country Club.

COVINGTON, La. – Texas A&M rising junior golfer Brooke Tyree advanced to the final of the 92nd annual Louisiana Women's Amateur with a match play upset of the tournament's top seed on Tuesday at the Tchefuncta Country Club.

A native of Sulphur, La, Tyree tallied a 1-up victory over top-seeded and 2018 Champion Abbey Daniel of Covington, La., who is a rising sophomore at Mississippi State.

"I've been playing solid all week and the plan is to keep it going," Tyree said.

Tyree will seek to capture her first Louisiana Amateur Championships when she faces Lisa (McCloskey) Bisset, originally from Montgomery, Texas, in Wednesday's final match, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Bisset is an assistant golf coach at Tulane and was a two-time All-American at USC under current Aggie head coach Andrea Gaston.

In a back-and-forth affair, Tyree and Daniel were all-square after 17 holes, and the match came down to par 5, 477-yard 18th hole. According to the Louisiana Golf Association's recap:

"Both players found the fairway with their tee shots. Tyree was away, and she put the pressure on Daniel by knocking her second shot over the greenside bunker onto the fringe, 10 yards away from the hole. Daniel also went for the green with her second shot but her ball found the water and she had to take penalty relief. Her fourth shot was long but closer to the hole than where Tyree's ball lay on the fringe. Tyree chipped her third shot to four feet. Daniel missed her par putt and conceded the hole to Tyree for the 1-up victory."
