BRADENTON, Fla.– Texas A&M catcher Haley Lee was named the Florida Gulf Coast League Defensive Player of the Year, the league announced.
Throughout the summer, Lee played for the Bradenton Lynx, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage, while gunning out half of would-be base stealers. Offensively, she held a .327 batting average and a .493 on base percentage. Lee was third on the team in hits with 18. She recorded two doubles, a triple, three home runs and 15 RBI, while leading the Lynx with 16 walks.
"Haley is one of the most enjoyable players I have had the opportunity to coach," Bradenton Lynx head coach Lindsay Fico said. "She's extremely lighthearted, but a true student of the game and remains focused on making those around her better. Her ability to call pitches for our entire staff is equally as impressive as her arm from behind the plate. She brought experience and leadership to our young team this summer."
The Kingwood, Texas, native was named an FGCL All-Star and participated in the league's home run derby competition. She has been selected to play against USSSA Pride in Viera, Florida, later this week.
