Jimbo Fisher, offensive lineman Kenyon Green and tight end Ryan Renick visited with the press on Thursday during the Aggies' latest weekly media conference. We've got notes from Coach Fisher's session below as well.

12thman.com's coverage of Fall Camp is presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Notes from Coach Fisher's press conference:

  • (Isaiah Spiller) Big responsibility on him and how quick came on him to be starter after a game two injury. Hopefully could have supplemented him as backup role before having to do that. Great young man, getting better and better and will be extremely counted on this year. Needs to have great year.
  • (one element on each side of ball you’re convinced has improved) Overall the ability to be diverse. The diversity we can create offensively. Hopefully we can create more big plays downfield. Big plays besides turnovers are second most important thing to winning games. Definitely very pleased with the young guys. Overall secondary play getting better there and front is mixing well. Should see improvement.
  • (more inclined to talk to some fellow coaches during this time) Probably early. Right now during camp not as much. Still reaching out though. Have common bonds of people between all of us we can bounce ideas off. Was a lot of interaction and ideas, reaching out to them. Know what some guys are doing. Hearing from people between us. Constantly listening and looking at that. None of us have all the answers.
  • (status of tight ends) Blake Smith is out. Baylor Cupp is out. Both doing well. Baylor shoulder, Blake knee. One of them having surgery today. Other went really well. Ready to go in future. Still have quite few numbers in that position so we keep working there.
  • (status of Jhamon Ausbon and if anyone else has opted out) Haven’t had guys opt out. Jhamon still with our team. Sometimes these guys take time to reflect on different things. But he’s still on team and on our roster.
  • (how special to have a QB returning who is a 4 year starter and if things go well he can leave with a lot of school records) Didn’t realize that. He’s had outstanding camp. Have a 4-year starter knowing what you want and how you want it is great. Finishing a lot of my sentences. Leadership. Execution. Comfort level. Guys around him executing too. Having him there been huge. Doing tremendous job right now.
  • (role of Renick this year) Will play role like he did last year. Was huge in our game. Not lot of catches, he can catch football, but has ability to play multiple positions. Tell him he’s like Swiss army knife. Nothing he can’t do. Very, very intelligent and tough football player. Very competitive. Does lot of really good things on our football team. Sometimes don’t notice them in stats but as football coach invaluable piece to what we do and how we do it.
  • (relationship with Coach Dickey, how its evolved, sharing of ideas) Darrell been very successful football coach, head coach, OC, at multiple places and multiple levels of football. When you win at different levels it takes different things. Don’t always have same type of players. Very creative mind. Can create mismatches. Think our offensive staff one of best we’ve ever had. Understand big picture of what’s going on, not just at your position but how it intertwines with the entire offense. Darrell doing outstanding job right now. Very comfortable where we are going offensively right now and he’s been huge part of that.
  • (impact small crowds will have) On offense, one of things is won’t have to silent count. Will be able to call cadence on road. Shouldn’t be issue. That’ll be very interesting thing. Will be ongoing learning experience for all of us, feeding off that energy. Think can’t answer that until we get in this arena. Ongoing. Will hear a lot more things from sidelines you’ve never heard before. Not saying bad or good but what actually is going on. Think things will open up to people that they’ve never heard before.
  • (nickel position and competition there) Clifford Chattman, Erick Young,  Devin Morris. Played Brian George there. Multiple guys there all playing well. As you know now nickel just as important as any other position on board in how game is played today. Feel comfortable with guys in there. All provide different things and avenues. You’ll see them all play.
  • (know the starting lineup two weeks out) Got idea but still scrimmages to be played, lot of ball to be played. So no. Guys will emerge next few weeks. Bunch of competitive battles across board. Got another scrimmage this Saturday, will see how last few weeks of practice go.
  • (Smart Chibuzo seeing work at center) Like him. Think he can play there. You can’t have enough centers. Very unique, hard thing to do. Has a chance to be a very good center in future, I really do.
  • (Kenyon Green) Kenyon is tremendous. Very intelligent. Loves everything about ball. Works at it. Smart. There are tough guys up front and smart guys up front, and he’s both. Can play multiple positions across board. Has tremendous future in game. He could possibly go down as one of the best we’ve had here. Allows you to coach him. Likes to be pushed and challenged. And he fights back too. Will be one heck of a football player.
  • (Covid update) Doing excellent COVID-wise. Very, very proud of players and what’s going on COVID-wise and how we’re handling things. Extremely minimal. Don’t have many guys at all missing.
  • (thoughts on first scrimmage) One of things jumped out at me most offensively was this was first time we’ve been live since last December, the bowl game. Very few pre-snap penalties. Took care of football very well. Not a lot of carelessness with ball. Execution of plays getting calls in. Not having delays of games. Self-inflicting wounds you can control. Our guys were locked in. Coaches and players did very well. Haven’t done that in a while in a game situation. Competition was really good. Tackled well in space. Offense made big plays. Defense did really good things. Got pressure on QB at times in key moments. Young guys emerging well. Will provide lot of depth. Leadership very good.
  • (why to expect more big plays and turnovers than last few years) Experience, knowledge, athleticism. And sometimes with turnovers you can try too hard. Sometimes you create them and sometimes you don’t. Putting emphasis on that but at same time have to stay fundamental on what you do. More depth gives guys break and will provide fresh players. That matters too.
  • (Micheal Clemons and expectations for him) He ain’t hard to find in camp. Playing really well. Leadership. Overall command. Physicality. Relentlessness on each and every play. Extremely pleased with his play in camp. Leadership. Demeanor on team. Tone setter on how you’ve gotta play the game. Doing tremendous job.Â
