...on the home crowd:
"We were only 22% compacity, I can't wait till we get the other 78%, I promise you that. That's why I say it's the best environment in college football, we have passionate fans and passionate people in the 12thMan. Our fans are loyal, they love each other and they love A&M. They're here to root hard and however many are there they'll make up for the others.
...Isaiah Spiller and what it does for play calling when you’re running so well:
"He's running through guys, he's big, physical and strong, he's playing really good football. As good as he's played he still has a lot of room to improve, that's no disrespect but that's an encouragement thing...he still has a lot of things he can continue to grow and little details in how he runs and the way he does things."
"It gives you diversity and gives you options, it creates match up issues on defense. The more divers you can be and the more successful you can be in all those areas gives you an advantage."
...the key to slowing a Mike Leach offense:
"You have to be talented and you have to be diverse. Can you pressure the quarterback, can you cover zone, can you play man-to-man, I mean it's about being diverse. Mike has always thrown the football around and he's done a great job and he's very sneaky with how he plays the running game...You're going to have to play disciplined, hard and tough football. We're going to have tackle in space very well and not miss tackles, we'll have to contain guys and keep leverage on the football. You look at their receivers and it's usually eight to nine guys a game to catch balls. In their last game their tailback had 15 catches, so you see the ball goes all over."Â
...the Florida win, Mississippi State game:
"After evaluating the film from the Florida game I'm very proud of our team. I think the biggest thing of all was just how we competed in the football game. The guys just kept playing the next play and didn't pay attention to the score board...It's time to put that one away, that one is over with, it was a very good win and now we get ready to play a very good Mississippi State team on the road, which is always tough in this league....Mike has always been a great offensive mind. This is a very good football team and we'll have to go on the road to play a complete game, like I say they'll be ready to play at home."
...the offensive line this year compared to past seasons:
"It's amazing what maturity is isn't it. They've played a lot of games, they recognize blitzes they've recognized stunts and know how to pass them off. Guys can't always do that as freshman and plus your quarterback is more experienced, so he can read and get the ball out quicker."
"Everybody says a sack is on the offensive line, well no. Maybe the receiver runs the wrong route, maybe he went too deep or maybe he didn't get open in one-on-one coverage and made the quarterback held it. The obvious to everybody is not the obvious, sacks don't always go on the offensive line and sometimes it can be on the receivers all getting covered and the quarterback has no where to go with it or the quarterback makes the wrong read."
"The big thing is I think their maturity, the number of starts and the number of times they've played. I just think bein able to play some seniors that have been around the block as they say, they've seen a lot of twists and stunts, they know how to compete in games."
...Kellen's performance and receiving offensive player of the week:
"Anytime your quarterback touches the ball every play he needs to play well and that's the responsibility that goes with it and he's doing a very good job of that, he's getting better and better. Our receivers were playing well, running backs were playing well and our offensive line was outstanding. It's amazing when the people around you play well and how your performance goes up. I keep saying football is such a team game, one can't live without the other. I'm very proud of him and happy for him."
...how difficult is it for a team to build success when they have had success:
"Remember why you had success last week, how'd you practice, how'd you sleep and how'd you prepare. You can't cheat this game, you can't cheat it. Physical ability is not winning this game, it gives you an opportunity to be successful. It's how you prepare, how you think, how you practice and your attention to detail. You're trusting the process and the preparation of how you do things, we call it the power of preparation and that's what you have to do, you have to stay hungry. It's not about the scoreboard, it's about winning your space and putting your head down. If I take care of my space and take care of things on the field then things on the scoreboard will take care of itself, you have to stay true to those beliefs."
