BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Great defense and stellar pitching propelled the Plowboys to a 5-1 win over the Farmers to complete the sweep of the Maroon & White World Series Friday afternoon on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Plowboys pitching staff stymied the Farmers' offense. Starter Chris Weber earned the win for the Plowboys, throwing 4.0 scoreless frames, scattering one hit and three walks while fanning six. Weber got out of a key one-out, bases-loaded jam in the third. Colson Geisler, Zach Easterling, and Mason Ornelas closed out the remaindered of the game, each working an inning. Easterling struck out three while Ornelas fanned a pair.
Offensively, Zane Schmidt led the way for the Plowboys, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one walk. Bryce Blaum tallied three RBI on two sacrifice plays, and Rody Barker added a hit, one walk and one RBI.
On the mound for the Farmers, Jonathan Childress was saddled with the loss. Childress yielded five runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks while striking out four. In relief, the Farmers threw Kobe Andrade, Walker Zander, and Joseph Menefee to shut down the Plowboys' offense. Andrade recorded one strikeout while giving up one hit in 0.2 innings of work. Zander and Menefee each threw a scoreless frame with a strikeout apiece.
Ty Coleman, Ryan Targac, and Logan Britt recorded the three lone hits for the Farmers. Coleman was 1-for-3 on the day with one run.
The Plowboys sweep the series 3-0 over the Farmers, and win the Omaha Cup.
