BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's golf team announced its 2019-20 annual awards as a part of the "Golf Day" festivities on Friday at the Traditions Club. The annual awards are traditionally announced at the annual team banquet in the spring, but the coronavirus pandemic prevented the event.

Sam Bennett earned the Most Valuable Player Award after finishing the year with four top 20 performances, while leading the team with a 71.17 scoring average. He posted eight rounds of 70 or better. His best finish was a tie for third at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate and he also posted a tie for fifth at the San Diego Classic.

The Most Improved Player Award went to William Paysse, who posted a 71.62 scoring average while seeing action in seven tournaments after redshirting in 2018-19. He posted three top three finishes, including his first collegiate victory at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.

Jimmy Lee was named the Newcomer of the Year after posting a 72.22 scoring average while seeing action in six collegiate tournaments and also tallied a top 10 finish in the Asia-Pacific Amateur in Shanghai, China last fall. Lee's score counted in 17 of 18 rounds and he posted six rounds of 70 or better, including a low round of 68 at the Cabo Collegiate.

Receiving the coveted Bob Ellis Leadership Award was Reese Ramsey, who saw action in three tournaments and was also named to the SEC Community Service Team.

With the Aggies in the midst of a record-setting school year in the classroom, Matthew Denton was honored with the B.K. & Jane Watson Academic Achievement Award. The Aggies posted the highest grade point average among men's programs at Texas A&M with Denton pacing the team with a 4.0 GPA.
