Soccer Rolls to 2-0 Win at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies scored in the first 50 seconds of the match and battled the next 89 minutes to post a 2-0 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday evening.
Taylor Pounds scored off a Jimena Lopez corner kick 50 seconds into the contest and Laney Carroll scored on a give-and-go from Barbara Olivieri in the 68th minute as the Maroon & White won in Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2014.
With goals by the two freshmen, Aggie rookies have accounted for eight of the squad's 14 goals on the season.
The first half was a fracas with Texas A&M owning the advantage in shots (4-2) and shots-on-goal (2-0) and Alabama having the edge in corner kicks (3-2). The Maroon & White were a whisker away from taking a 2-0 lead in the 43rd minute. On a free kick from 22 yards outs, Jimena Lopez ripped a rocket that hit the crossbar.
For the match, the Aggies claimed the margins in shots (10-7), shots-on-goal (4-2) and corner kicks (10-4).
Kenna Caldwell recorded the shutout in goal, making two saves in her first start of the season.
Texas A&M improved to 5-1-0 on the season while the Crimson Tide dropped to 1-4-2.
SCORING SUMMARY
1' – Lopez sent a corner kick in from the right arc into a maelstrom. A carom rolled out to Pounds three yards out and she sent it home for her first career goal. A&M 1, UA 0.
68' – Carroll gathered the ball 35 yards out and poked it out a charging Olivieri. The duo attacked the defense with Olivieri slotting a ball to Carroll near the PK spot and she punched it past a sliding netminder. A&M 2, UA 0.
